Tveter and Fortec join forces for Formula Renault 2.0 NEC assault

DAVENTRY, Northamptonshire, U.K., Jan. 23 — American racer Ryan Tveter is excited to announce that he will contest the 2013 Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup (NEC) with Fortec Motorsport, the team that won both the team and driver championships in that series last season.

The 18-year-old from Oyster Bay, N.Y., who has lived in Europe extensively, will be based in Zurich, Switzerland as he undertakes his first full season of single-seater racing. He advances to NEC after contesting a partial season in North America’s Star Mazda Championship in 2012, during which he scored a top-five finish and three top 10s and was awarded the Quarter Master Clutch Performer award.

Tveter is an engineering student at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa., where he was selected for its Honors Integrated Degree in Engineering and Arts and Sciences (IDEAS) program. The university has granted him a leave of absence so he can compete in Europe.

Tveter is a relative newcomer to racing.  He stepped into a race car for the first time in February 2011 when he was invited to test a Formula BMW in his native United States.  In his first race in June that year he finished tenth out of 44 entrants in a Formula Ford 1600 event at the Canadian Grand Prix.

Since then Tveter has worked hard to gain experience in single seaters. He completed a three-day test with Fortec at Valencia, Spain last month, where his solid performance and excellent feedback helped secure his spot with the team for 2013.

Ryan Tveter: “I am thrilled to be joining Fortec for this very important year in my career. The Northern European Cup is definitely going to be a challenge. It’s my first full season of racing and my first year racing in Europe, and the high level of competition in NEC will be an excellent learning opportunity for me. The team is absolutely fantastic. The people are amazing and they have great resources and results. I’m looking forward to learning as much as I can. My focus will be on adapting to the new tracks, as I haven’t raced on any of them previously; learning the new car, and working well with the team. Fortec has high expectations and I’m looking forward to seeing what we can achieve together.”

Jamie Dye, Team Manager, Fortec Motorsport: “All of us at Fortec would like to thank Ryan for putting his faith in our team. We are very happy to have him on the team to compete in the Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup. The first step in pre-season testing will be establishing a good understanding of how the tyres work. The aim is to be consistently in the top six and run a competitive season throughout. We know that Ryan can do a good job and can’t wait to get on track!”
